Cristóbal’s Rating: BOYCOTT
- “Famous” fried chicken was the biggest disappointment
- Overpriced (everything costs extra), overhyped
- “Fusion” food and sleek interior attracts a yuppie crowd in Sugar Land
What’s worse than an overpriced menu is an eatery that bombs its own claim-to-fame: Korean fried chicken. Soggy and chewy, the pitiful wings and drumsticks were marketed with “spicy” and “soy garlic” sauces–while flavourful enough, failed to hide the textures and tastes of low-quality old chicken, overly deep-fried, and doused in a sticky mess.
Bonchon no doubt has a name for itself, as it attracted a significant crowd for its bad location, hidden off the side of a strip mall, barely accessible behind a bayou. Yelpers declare it a local gem, but sadly, the quality misses the mark of edible by a huge margin.
Even by American standards, the food was sub-par. And so with the category title of “Asian-Fusion” that tasted quite literally, terrible, I declare this restaurant to be, essentially, sacrilegious.
